Two new weapons, the Ice Bolt Launcher, and ultimates
Two new weapons arrive, the Boomerang Blade and the Grapple Claw, specializations are now ultimates, the Lockdown Dart is now the Ice Bolt Launcher with three new ultimates and frost on everything it freezes, an ultimate that changes what a weapon does shows it in its own colour, the home screen tells you when you can afford something, and prestige has a room of its own.
Weapons
- New: the Boomerang Blade. A heavy spinning blade thrown out to its full reach and back, cutting everything it passes through on the way out and again on the way home. One blade flies at a time, and the next throw leaves once it is home, so every cut lands hard. The blade grows with every level, so it cuts through more of the sky on each throw. 300 flux in the Arsenal.
- New: the Grapple Claw. A claw on a long jointed arm strikes one enemy and snaps straight back, and every strike brings home a little scrap. Levels add scrap to every strike and lengthen the arm, far enough to reach bosses hanging high in the sky. What it kills is hauled in and broken up at the building. Bosses are struck where they hang. Take a foundry world to win it.
- The Thermal Lance is in the Arsenal now, 300 flux, since the foundry worlds hold the Grapple Claw instead. A foundry's guns now reach out and crush your ships when you invade.
- The Lockdown Dart is now the Ice Bolt Launcher. It fires a bolt of ice that freezes what it hits, for as long as before. Anything frozen in ice now looks it, with frost over the body, crystals standing off it and a faint cold mist: the Ice Bolt's targets, and those caught by the Orbital Designator's Cryo Round and the Frozen Orb's Deep Chill.
- Thermal Lance: the turret turns with the beam as it carves, and with Thermal Drill it points at what it is drilling.
Ultimates
- Boomerang Blade: Full Circle throws the blade round one wide circle that stands on the gun and runs through its target, with one blade out at a time, and its cuts land harder. Honed Edge makes the blade bite and drag through what it hits, cutting again and again, harder with each cut. Scavenger Blade makes glints and flux cells drop three times as often, and the blade collects any it touches.
- Grapple Claw: Many Hands throws three arms at once at different targets. Death Grip latches on and never lets go until its target dies, draining it and leeching scrap the whole time. It holds ordinary enemies still, and on a boss the arm stretches to follow it wherever it goes. Heave throws anything the strike leaves alive up and away, back up the sky.
- Specializations are now called ultimates. Same three choices per weapon at level 5, new name everywhere you see them.
- Ultimates wear their own colours. When an ultimate changes what an attack does, the attack now looks different too: its shot, beam, arc or cloud takes a colour of its own, and so does the muzzle flash. Ultimates that only make an attack bigger or fire more of it keep the weapon's colour, and the ones that already had their own look are unchanged.
- Railgun: Feedback Rail fires electric cyan and Heavy Slug molten orange. Wide Bore stays violet, since it is the same slug, only wider.
- 40mm Cannon: Sabot Rounds fire steel shells, Ricochet hot gold.
- Tesla Coil: Arc Lock strikes in electric gold, Standing Arc in lime, Ball Lightning in magenta.
- Flak Battery: White Phosphorus fragments burn a deeper orange that holds up against a bright sky.
- RPG Launcher: the Seeker Warhead burns lock-on red.
- Flamethrower: Napalm burns a deep, sooty red, and Solar Flare's ring of fire is sun gold.
- Orbital Designator: Kill Chain paints and strikes in gold.
- Thermal Lance: Thermal Drill's beam burns blue-white, and Slag leaves amber cracks across a dark crust.
- Corkscrew Beam: three new ultimates, an element each and a healer. Arc Line throws a spark from everything on the line into the nearest enemy beside it, so the beam reaches sideways into a crowd. Acid Line makes everything the line touches take 30% more damage from every gun for 3 seconds, and a Battering Ram's plate melts away while the acid lasts. Welding Line turns the beam down onto your damaged solar panels whenever nothing is in reach and welds them back. They replace Trident, Stun Burst and Tether; a run that had one has its replacement.
- Ice Bolt Launcher: three new ultimates. Glacial Spike bursts into spikes of glacier-blue ice that freeze everything close to the target too, though never a boss or its guns. Shatter makes anything frozen throw off clear ice shards when another weapon hits it, cutting everything around it. Frost Fire sets what the bolt freezes burning with cold blue fire. They replace Flash Freeze, the old Shatter and Brittle.
- Nanite Swarm: Corrosion's swarm is acid yellow and Detonation's a volatile orange, on the dart, the packets and the infected.
- Vapor Screen: Acid Rain replaces Cryo Cloud. Every bank rains acid for as long as it hangs, eating away at anything flying through the rain beneath it. Rainfall's rain is redrawn too: a soft shower with thin drops and splashes, from a bank that darkens as it fills.
- Frozen Orb: Storm Orb crackles electric lime, Deep Chill a deep indigo.
- Gravity Well: Collapse glows blast gold, Repulsor teal, Crush crimson.
- Supply Drop: an Express Delivery crate leaves steel speed lines as it falls.
Enemies
- Enemies and bosses are fully 3D. Their hulls are rounded now and catch the light, with lit tops and shaded undersides, where they used to read as flat cutouts.
- The Battering Ram's drill spins on its own. The hull holds steady with its armor plate to the front while the drill turns beneath it.
Interface
- Ready to buy. When you can afford something, the home screen says so right under Play, with a button for each room that has something you can buy. The Operations menu shows a dot when anything is ready. The defeat screen shows the same buttons, so a run sends you straight to where your flux can go. The While you were away report no longer lists where something is affordable, since the home screen shows it.
- Every ultimate has an In action tab in the gallery, set up with the enemies its trick needs: armor for shells that punch through, a crowd for chains and splash, fast movers for slows and stalls, a second gun for the ones that set up its hits.
- Weapon levels are stars. Draft cards, your weapon list and the defeat report show a weapon's level as stars, one a level up to its ultimate at five. Each level past the ultimate turns one star glowing orange.
- The run bar stays up during a draft. While you choose a card, the integrity and level bars and the run menu, with its speed controls, stay on top of the cards.
- A stun looks electric. A stalled or stunned enemy crackles with yellow static instead of the old Lockdown ring, so a stun and a freeze no longer look alike.
- The cold shows. Enemies slowed by the Vapor Screen's clouds, Frost Pulse or the Frozen Orb's chill turn blue while it lasts.
- Prestige has its own room. Find it in the Operations menu: your rank, what the next rank gives, and what buying it clears and keeps. The Perks room sells only perks now.
Fixes
- A boss's glint is easier to catch. It now shows over the boss's breakup and explosion, and you can tap it while the camera swoops in on the wreck.
- The guns fall silent when the array falls. While the buildings and panels blow up, nothing fires and nothing lands any more, and the defeat report no longer counts damage dealt after the loss.
- Arc Lock lets go of a spent boss part. Once a boss's hull or gun can take no more, the lock moves on instead of pouring into it while the rest of the boss lives.
- Orbital lasers fly barrel first. On the globe and in the hangar their barrels pointed straight out into space; they now point the way they travel.
- New models show up right away. After an update, a browser could keep drawing an older copy of a model for days, so the Battering Ram could appear without its new drill. Models, sprites and portraits now refresh with each update.
- Gallery targets arrive in order. The lowest targets come in first, so none has to fly down through the ones already in place.
